The Most Common Decking Materials to Take Landscaping to the Next Level

Landscaping in Toronto neighbourhoods can be truly an art statement. Some streets are very particular and elaborate in the outdoor arrangement of the properties. It can be quite a challenge for house owners to reach the high aesthetic bar of landscaping beauty. In such cases, landscape designers, like ourselves, can give a tip or two on how to bring a unique touch to your front yard.
A sure way to level up the look of your house is to combine soft and hard landscaping. Building a deck or a porch is a great way to create extra space and increase the value of a property. These are highly customizable projects that will make a front yard or a backyard unique and exquisite. There is also a range of materials that can be used to fit any budget, lifestyle and creativity. Here is a list of the most common decking options to advance any landscaping design.

Composite Decking

Composite is a great material for any outdoor builds. It's durable, strong and weather resistant. Composite decking doesn`t require any maintenance other than swiping leaves and dirt. This material is resistant to mold, mildew and rotting. It also doesn't warp or crack and does not create splinters. Once installed, composite decking is a maintenance-free structure.

PVC Decking

PVC decks are made from plastic. Since it does not contain any organic matter, PVC decking is the most durable option. It has the longest lifespan and the strongest water resilience, compared to the other materials. However, PVC decks are usually priced at the higher end.
It also doesn't require maintenance, painting or staining. The biggest difference between composite and PVC is in the look. The easiest way to choose between the materials is to see the samples and get a feeling of what fits the image best.

IPE Wood Decking

IPE wood is a luxury in the decking world. Heavy, dense and strong, this wood can withstand incredibly strong pressure and heavy weights. It also offers a Class A Fire Rating, meaning that it’s practically fire-resistant. The beautiful rich grain of the wood will make any front yard look high-end. Annual oiling of an IPE deck can prevent the wood from fading. This material is also the most expensive on the market.

Pressure-Treated Decking

Pressure-treated wood is the most affordable decking material. It looks just like regular lumber, but the chemical coating preserves it from rotting and decay. It can be easily painted to freshen up the look of the decking, but it will also stay intact for years without any additional treatment. Getting a pressure-treated deck is a great way to upgrade the property's landscape on a lower budget.

Adding a deck is a sure way to take landscape design to the next level. However, it requires some planning and can be time-consuming.
